The $58 Challenge

I got sucked in; I will admit it.  That's what happens when you drop your cable TV service and get only a few select digital channels.

Ok, let me take you back to that moment...  I was sitting on the couch, flipping through the 14 or so digital channels that come in when you don't have a cable TV package, and I landed on the Inspiration channel (or some other church-type channel).  The guy was talking about a year of blessings, and I got caught up in it.  The premise was that if you donate $58 each month (to his church organization) for a year, you would be both acknowledging your debt to God (because we can never fully repay Him) and also supporting this guy's church, and you would in turn receive 12 blessings.  The blessings could be anything that you prayed for.  He told a few stories about his and his family's results from this challenge that were pretty impressive.  The $58 was an arbitrary number he had come up with after praying, supposedly.  Like I said, the guy sucked me in.

I'm gullible, but not that much.  Well, ok, let me tell you the rest of the story.  I decided that this idea was interesting, but I would much rather send the $58 to my own church than to this gentleman.  At least I know it would be put to good use.  So, I decided to take him up on his challenge.

I wrote my first $58 check in early April, and on it I put 12 different blessings we could use as a family.  Nothing too specific, just categories, like "financial" and "love."  I prayed that God's will would be done and left our lives in his hands.

It was a couple weeks later when I received three job offers in a row that I thought back to this first check.  And then my husband got a job prospect, too.

I wrote my second $58 monthly check two weeks ago.  I wrote the same 12 blessings on the check, prayed for God to do His will, and put it in the basket at church.  God works in mysterious ways; we received another blessing on the list this month.

Why am I telling you this?  To inspire you to try it.  Acknowledge your debt to God, and put your lives in His hands.  Maybe you'll be equally as blessed.
