I will happily admit that I'm a little giddy today! I've been waiting a long time for something to come to fruition, and it finally did. (And no, I'm not pregnant, haha!)
It took perseverance and determination on my part, but I was patient and definitely determined, and I got what I wanted! It reminds me a great deal of the story I shared on my college applications about my grandmother.
Nonna (the Italian word for Grandmother) came from Italy with three of her four young children in the late '60s. Her oldest son decided to remain in Sicily; her husband had passed away several years before. Nonna's dream was for her children to have a better life in the USA and to eventually build a home of her own in her hometown in Sicily. To make a long story short, after many years of work, some of which fell on her two other sons, Nonna was able to both provide for her family and build that house of her dreams back in Italy. I always said I wanted to be like her. There are lots of blessings in my life that I feel came to fruition from the determination that she passed on to me.
I'll be honest, I haven't had such a difficult life. A lot of my troubles were (and continue to be) direct consequences of my own actions. But if I hadn't persevered and been determined to get the outcomes I wanted (which maybe were a little different from the outcomes I first set out to obtain), I wouldn't be where I am now. I have a pretty great life. I have shelter, food, transportation, a source of income that is enough to maintain the first three things, and people (and cats!) who love me. Who could ask for anything more? Thank you, God, for the blessings you bestow on me daily!
