No, this post isn't going to be about those gimmicks for saving your money at the bank! Haha!
I used to be quite adverse to change in my life. I had a 1-month, 1-year, 3-year, 5-year, 10-year, etc plan for just about everything. Well, as life goes, things did not turn out exactly how I predicted or desired. And you know what? I'm happy with the way things have gone differently for the most part.
Sure, I'd love to be making more money (without doing as much work, haha!) or live in a bigger house (or maybe not, because that means more cleaning!) or have a different occupation (definitely something to do with crafts!). But today, I want to "keep the change." I love my husband, my house, my career choice. Maybe I'd love to make more money, but money isn't everything. Without change, I wouldn't be where I'm at and maybe I wouldn't be as happy. I once read somewhere that it is easier to learn to be happy with what you have than to keep trying to find happiness. Since I can't remember the exact quote nor reproduce it in a recognizable enough form to search for it on Google, here are a few nice ones I came across:
"The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grows it under his feet."
~James Openheim
"Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn't know you left open."
~John Barrymore
"People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they're not on your road doesn't mean they've gotten lost."
~H. Jackson Brown
"Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you."
~Nathaniel Hawthorne
So while it's nice to have a 5-year and 10-year plan, sometime you should just be satisfied to "keep the change" you get. Instead of plans, maybe they should be suggestions. I like that. I'm going to go daydream about my next 5-year suggestion...
