Chase Your Dreams

"Never give up on a dream just because of the length of time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway."

How true is that quote!?  We always say we wish we did "X," and, by the time we say this, we probably could have already started working on it!  I started living by the "Do It Now" principle (so thoroughly promoted by FlyLady [www.flylady.net]), and I've found that it's so much easier to find time to work on my idea of "X" when everything else is already done.

Ok, for example, putting away the clean dishes in the dishwasher.  I timed this one a few weeks back, mostly because I was curious at how long this task (which I normally hate taking the time to do) would actually take.  I set the microwave to two minutes to warm some leftovers for dinner.  Before one minute and thirty seconds has elapsed, the dishwasher was empty.  And once that dishwasher is empty, you can start piling it full of dirty dishes as you create them, preserving your sink in its shiny and clean state.  The state of your sink is very important if you want to rinse off fresh fruit or veggies, and if you can get in there for a quick rinse job, you are more likely to eat the healthy stuff you washed, rather than grabbing for convenience items like cookies and chips!

Anyway, I'll keep the healthy eating discussion for another post!  Let's get back to your dreams...  I know many people who don't go to back to school to pursue the career of their choice, who don't open their own business doing whatever it is they love, who don't "X" because they don't feel they have the time or because it will take too much time.  Believe it or not, folks, that time is going to pass whether you work on your dream or you do something else.  Would you rather spend that time doing something you hate (or another applicable example) or working on getting to do something you love?  There's a college radio ad in our area that says something very similar:  it takes 16 months to graduate with the specific degree they are promoting and those 16 months are going to pass whether you enroll or not.  Why not give it a shot?

Grab the proverbial bull by the horns, jump on and hold on tight, and chase those dreams!
