Movin' On Up!

I really like MPeople's "Movin' On Up" song (1993).  YouTube it, if you don't know it.  My favorite lines from the lyrics?  "There ain't nothing you can't do" and "Nothing can stop me."

[Trivia Moment:  A totally different song with the same title (sung by Ja'net Dubois and Oren Waters) was the theme song from "The Jeffersons" TV show (1975-1985, CBS).]

Anyway, this song will get you grooving and in a feel-good mood.  It's particularly useful to play when you have a transition like a job change, as I am experiencing.  The most important thing I've learned over the last year?  If you don't take care of yourself, how can you take care of anyone else?

My decision to transition to a new job was a result of my goal to put my family and my life first.  My father once told me that my top priorities should be God and family.  I've got the God part going well - attending church weekly, trying to live as Jesus taught us, participating in Mass as a lector and Eucharistic minister, and volunteering to educate the youth in our parish about our faith.  Now to focus on the family part a little more.  The new job is closer to home, which will allow me the opportunities to spend my time more wisely.  I will admit that there is a small degree of selfishness involved; I would like to enjoy my new house and my husband more than the current situation allows.  But again, if I don't take care of myself, how can I take care of anyone else?

Take a look at your own life.  How can you take better care of yourself in order to take better care of others?  Get more sleep, eat better, take time to relax and destress, perhaps?  Today's the day to start saying "What can I do for me today?" first!
