I saw this great quote on Pinterest today: "What you allow is what will continue." It made me think back to some teasing I experienced in elementary and middle school up through grade 7. If I hadn't "allowed" it, it probably wouldn't have continued.
How many of us allow people to walk all over us? At work, you might allow a boss to delegate the majority of tasks to you, when you have an equally qualified coworker, because you never say "no." At home, you might cater to everything the kids want instead of planning their choices as the parent. In your relationships, you might let people get away with criticizing you for whatever reason.
Stand up for yourself! If you don't protect your assets, who will? Say "no" when you can't add something else to your plate. Plan better in advance to give your kids a choice of three things you already decided were appropriate. Speak up when someone criticizes your actions. If you don't allow negative things that you don't like, you won't have to deal with them as much.
Set down the rules for how others should interact with you. Don't let them choose how to behave.
